Kanipora Anantnag residents demand restoration of water supply

Shopian: The residents of Kandipora in Bijbehara area of Anantnag district in south Kashmir have demanded restoration of drinking water supply in the area. The residents alleged that since past three weeks potable water supply to their area has remained suspended.

The residents of the area said that since last 20 days they aren’t getting water due to which they are facing lot of inconvenience.

They said that the village was getting from supply from Wopzan scheme for last three years but since last 20-25 days, their taps have gone dry.

Mehraj Ahmad, a local resident said that area was getting a good supply since years but since last few weeks their taps have gone dry due to which they are suffering immensely.

He said that there is no water available for them for bathing, drinking and other purposes and no steps are being taken in this regard.

Sameer Ahmad, another local said that from the past 20 days they are using contaminated water that can lead to break out water borne diseases

Locals said that they are forced to visit nearby areas to get the water required for drinking and other purposes.

They said that the matter was brought into the notice of higher ups several times in last few days but no attention was given towards it.

They requested higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest so that locals won’t suffer anymore.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, locals blocked the road for sometime so as to get attention of concerned authorities following which Tehsildar Bijbehara and SHO Bijbehara reached to the spot.

Both Tehsildar and SHO while pacifying the locals assured them that their supply will be restored by Friday evening.
