Shopian: The residents of Meemandar village near main town Shopian in south Kashmir have demand a regular drinking water supply in their area.

The residents of Bren colony area said that they are without potable water due to which they are facing lot of inconvenience.

They said that the village is just two kilometres from the main town but it has been neglected on developmental fronts.

Abdl Rehman, a local resident said that people of the area are forced to drink contaminated water due to which water borne diseases can break out anytime.

He said that the shortage of potable water haunts the residents and they cannot find water for bathing, drinking and other purposes.

A local woman said that despite living close to the town their area has been without drinking water facility.

Locals said that they are to forced to visit the nearby areas to get potable water required for drinking and other purposes.

They said that pipes have been dumped in the area but they haven’t put to use as of now.

They said that the matter was brought into the notice of higher ups several times but no attention was given towards it.

The residents have requested higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest so that locals will see an end to their sufferings.

Meanwhile, an official of the Jal Shakti department said that a pipeline is being laid in the area and the area will get a regular water supply soon.
