Illicit timber loaded vehicle seized in Palhalan Pattan, driver held
Sopore : A party of forest protection force of Forest Department at a checkpoint established a naka at Palhalan Pattan and intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK05A-4125. During checking of the vehicle, 54.16Cfts of illicit timber was seized loaded on said vehicle, an official said Wednesday.
He said that the accused driver involved in the crime was also arrested on spot. The driver has been identified as Abdul Rashid Bhat S/o Mohammad Sabir Bhat resident of Lachipora Wadder Handwara.
He was later handed over to Police post Palhalan, the official added.
The official said that during intervening night of 21 and 22 November the Tata mobile vehicle bearing Reg. number JK05A-4125 loaded with illicit timber Deodar sawn 24 No’s measuring 54.16cfts was seized at Palhalan Pattan on Baramulla-Srinagar National Highway by Forest Protection Force Baramula Gamma Unit.
The driver was apprehended on spot and handed over to Police post Palhalan whereas seized vehicle was brought to Forest Protection Force Unit Hqrs K-07, Mazbugh in Sopore.
He said that the drive against timber smugglers will continue to ensure protection of green gold.
