Dumping site along circular road Pulwama to be shifted soon: Official

Pulwama: Work on solid waste management plant in Newa Pulwama has been started and the dumping site along the circular road in Pulwama Town will be shifted soon, officials said.

An official of Municipal Committee Pulwama said that district administration had earlier proposed to construct dumping site in Parigam Pulwama, however, it was objected to by the locals.

He said that later the administration identified the land in Newa Pulwama where construction work on solid waste management plant has already begun.

He said that process of identifying land and other formalities took time due to which the garbage was dumped along the circular road in Pulwama.

“People living in the area along with students and passersby were suffering due to the dumping site there but now the site is being closed and very soon it will be shifted to Newa once for all,” he said.

Locals said the dumping of garbage creates a lot of problems for locals as well as the students studying in the college besides that a foul smell has engulfed the area up to several metres.

They said the garbage site has also become a hub for stray dogs, thereby posing a risk to the lives of the people as well.

They said that so far hundreds of promises were made with locals that the site will be shifted but it hasn’t been done as of now.

They while thanking DC Pulwama said that he has personally intervened and work on the new site has been started.

They requested the authorities to complete the work at Newa dumping site at an earliest so that they won’t suffer anymore.

Meanwhile, an official of MC said that site will be shifted to Newa in around one month.
