‘Unsafe’ bridge at Moolu Shopian puts commuters lives at risk, allege locals

Shopian: A large number of people are putting their lives at risk by using a damaged bridge at Moolu Dangarpora area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district every day, locals said Wednesday.

They said that the bridge connecting different villages of Imamsahib Tehsil of the district is lying in a dilapidated condition and as a result the public is facing huge inconvenience.

They said that the bridge got damaged last year but hasn’t been repaired as of now.

Umar Ahmad, a local resident said that the bridge was constructed around a decade back and got damaged last year.

He said that vehicles especially fruit laden trucks are crossing the bridge by putting their lives and material at risk.

Reyaz Ahmad, another local resident said that the bridge is unsafe and can prove fatal if immediate steps won’t be taken.

He said that it is very risky to cross the bridge but authorities have failed to initiate any step for repairing the bridge.

Locals said that since last one year the local administration was informed umpteen times but nothing has been done so far.

They said that the bridge is very important as it is connecting dozens of villages with each other.

The locals said that despite taking p the issue with the higher ups and other public representatives several times, no concrete step has been taken.

The locals have once again requested the concerned authorities to look into the matter at an earliest so that repair work on the bridge is carried out.
