Pulwama: The residents of Kanigam area of Rajpora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district are reeling under darkness as the transformer installed there has developed technical snag thrice during the past fortnight, locals alleged Wednesday.

The residents of the area are up in arms against the PDD for failing to rectify the technical snag of transformer due to which it gets damaged frequently.

Locals said the existing transformer has developed technical snag twice during the last fortnight due to heavy load on the transformer.

They said that the 100 KVA transformer got sanctioned for the village last year but only 63 KVA was installed and now due to heavy load the transformer has been developing snags frequently.

Mudasir Ahmad, a local said that the government increases electricity fee as per their will but they have failed to upgrade infrastructure as their transformer develops technical snag frequently.

He said that despite paying bills on time authorities fail in repairing the transformer on time.

The locals said if the old transformer is not able to bear the load than a second transformer should be installed to enhance the capacity.

“We are reeling under darkness and students are suffering mostly who have to prepare for different examinations,” they said.

They said that they have been raising this issue before the concerned higher officials but to no avail.

They requested higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest so that they won’t suffer any more.

Meanwhile an official of the concerned department said that the transformer is being repaired and will be re-installed very soon.
