Two drug peddlers held in south Kashmir: Police

Srinagar, Oct 24: Police arrested two drug peddlers in South Kashmir’s Anantnag and Kulgam districts and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman said Tuesday.

In Anantnag, a police party arrested a drug peddler and recovered 36.5 Kgs of Charas Powder from his possession. He has been identified as Shakeel Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Rasool Bhat resident of Arwani Bijbehara. He has been arrested and shifted to Police station where he remains in custody, he said.

In Kulgam, a police party intercepted a suspicious person carrying a nylon bag, who after noticing police party tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully. He has been identified as Mohammad Hussain Ganie son of Ghulam Rasool Ganie resident of Naid Check Nassu Badragund. During search, officers were able to recover 08 Kgs of Poppy Straw from his possession, the spokesman added.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and investigations have been initiated, he said.
