15 years on, new PHC building in Devsar Kulgam awaits completion
Kulgam: Even after a lapse of over 15 years, the Primary Health Centre (PHC) building in Devsar area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam is awaiting completion.
Locals said that since the last three decades the Primary Health Centre continues to operate from an old wooden building where there is space crunch and paucity of infrastructure.
They said that PHC caters to more than a dozen villages but despite that authorities have failed to complete the new building and make it functional which has been left abandoned due to unknown reasons.
They also said that new abandoned building has become a hub for drug addicts in the area and eve teasing incidents have become order of the day.
Ghlam Mohammad, a local resident said that PHC continues to function from a building which was constructed in 1985 but the department has failed to the complete new building on which construction work was initiated in the year 2008.
He said that they have brought the issue into the notice of higher ups several times but to no avail.
“Due to space crunch and other issues, locals are forced to visit sub district and district hospital which cost them both time and money,” Masrat Ahmad, another local resident alleged.
He said that due to space crunch and staff issues, patients are being referred elsewhere even for minor ailments.
The locals have now appealed the LG lead administration to look into the matter at an earliest and address the matter on priority so that locals can have a sigh of relief.
