Pulwama:-The non-availability of public transport in evening hours is causing immense hardships to the people in Awantipora and Tral areas of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Dozens of commuters, mostly office-goers and students could be seen stranded at the sumo stands and on the side of the roads in Awantipora area on different routes during evening hours.

Locals from Tral and Awantipora  areas said that passengers are facing immense problems due to the lack of public transport service in the evening hours for the last two few days in the district.

They said that there have been some issues between drivers of Sumo stand Tral and Sumo stand Awantipora due to which they are not allowing sumo drivers to pick passengers from each other’s stands.

They added this issue has escalated the problems of passengers and after 5:30 pm there hardly remains public transport available on the various routes.

Shabir Ahmad, a resident of Tral area while thanking authorities for starting bus services in different areas this year said that they must take care of transport facilities during evening hours as well.

He said that students, employees and other people have been suffering in absence of transport facilities during evening hours.

Passengers said that if any vehicle remains available in the evening, they are overcrowded and the drivers resort to overcharging.

They appealed to the higher authorities to look into the matter so that they could heave a sigh of relief.

Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner Tral, Sajad Yahya Naqash said that they had taken up review in this regard and passengers will get transport facilities during evening hours.
