‘Pretense’: A rapidly spreading social disease

By: Dr Satyavan Saurabh
In the changing society with time, the tendency to show off is increasing rapidly. Nowadays most people present a fake image of themselves in front of others. To a large extent, EMI facilities have also promoted this habit of showing off among people.
Seeing someone else have any new or expensive thing awakens the feeling of greed in the minds of people. Due to social sites like Facebook and Twitter, the tendency to show off is increasing among the youth. Relationships are also being updated on social sites only to show them to others.
As you grow older, your conduct, thoughts, and behavior will become serious. Then sometimes you will think that if I wear a watch worth Rs 300 or Rs 30000, both will tell the same time. Whether I live in a house of 300 yards or a house of 3000 yards, the feeling of loneliness will be the same.
Only one bed will be enough to sleep. Then you will also feel that if I travel in business class or economy class, I will reach my destination at the same scheduled time. Or travel in sleeper class of railways or AC, the train will reach both at the same time. Therefore, one should focus on one’s essential needs and not on unnecessary appearances.
There is no need to show off anything because it gives momentary benefits. Whatever work we have to do, it has to be done keeping the vision in mind. Increase your capabilities and all this will be possible when you take advantage of good things in your life. You can do this at any stage of life, so what is the need to show off?
A person will have to reach the peak of self-confidence only by maintaining his mental balance. The easiest way to achieve this is to follow the adage of simple living and high thinking. To move ahead in life, we have to make many changes within ourselves, we can do all that easily just by making our thinking positive.
Today’s era is the modern era, where development is seen in every field. The ghost of modernity has taken over the entire world. Modernity is directly related to development. From industry to experimentation, this world is progressing very fast. We do not want to look back; in this race of development, we have forgotten humanity. We do not want to look back even once, which can prove to be a big mistake.
It is said that history repeats itself, which we also get to see from time to time. Despite this, we are in no mood to learn anything. In today’s era, the unnecessary display of personal life on online platforms has increased to such an extent that whatever we eat, drink, go out for, and put on the online platform seems to be included in our duty. When you buy a new thing, don’t forget to upload it on Facebook.
People also do not miss sharing personal pictures taken while spending holidays with family. As you grow older, your conduct, thoughts, and behavior will become serious. Then sometimes you will think that if I wear a watch worth Rs 300 or Rs 30000, both will tell the same time.
Nowadays, people have started behaving fakely not only in their lifestyle but also in their relationships. Even a soft and true feeling like love is now being mixed with pretense. In today’s young generation, honesty towards relationships is not seen like before. People think bad about others in their minds but pretend to be good in front of them.
Such relationships based on lies are fake and hollow, that is why they break soon. We should teach our children how to be very happy instead of encouraging them to become very rich. We should look at the importance of material things and not their price. We have to come out of the life of show-off.
We have to tell the coming generation that this is their time to study and acquire knowledge. In such a situation, it is important that we remain concerned only about our work on Facebook and WhatsApp. Relationships are formed on WhatsApp but also deteriorate. Misunderstandings happen. Ultimately it doesn’t take long for relationships to disintegrate. The more time parents give to children, the more cultured the children will become. Children forced to face the horrors of nuclear families start looking for solutions to loneliness on mobile phones. Avoiding a lack of communication, listening to children, and being a part of their daily routine will attract them to you.
We need to know that if the tendency to show off is increasing in society then what is the reason for it? Today people are getting more options to earn money than before. Earlier people knew how to be satisfied even with their limited income. Now they think about what else we should have so that our status in society appears higher.
Now people have started showing off even in matters of relationships. There is no more spontaneity in life than before. Being a part of this society, we all are getting affected by it knowingly or unknowingly. Therefore, we should consciously try to avoid such habits.
