Police arrested five drug peddlers in Budgam

Srinagar: Police have arrested five drug peddlers in Budgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman said Thursday.

He said that a police party during naka checking at Gudsathoo near petrol pump Budgam intercepted two suspicious persons who tried to flee from the spot but were apprehended tactfully by the alert police party.

During search, 9.3Kgs of Poppy Straw concealed in a bag was recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Amar Chand son of Murti Ram resident of Arnahali Rohan Nawan Shahr Punjab and Rohit Kumar son of Parasholam Lal resident of Mahal Gailan Shaheed Bagat Singh Nagar Punjab.

Similarly, during naka checking at Zabgul, a police party of Police Station Beerwah intercepted a vehicle (Maruti 800) bearing Registration No JK01H-0343 with three persons on board who tried to flee from the spot however police party chased and apprehended them tactfully.

During search, 10Kgs of Poppy Straw was recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Tariq Ahmad Ganie son of Ghulam Mohd Ganie and Tanvir Ahmad Ganie son of Ghulam Mohd Ganie, both residents of Rakhwachoo and Bashir Ahmad Dar son of Abdul Ahad Dar resident of Sholipora.

All the accused persons have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody. The vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized. Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and further investigation has been initiated, the spokesman added.
