Says non-metered to have 8 hours dut daily

Srinagar: Ahead of winter, Kashmir Power Development Corporation Ltd (KPDCL) on Monday issued a fresh power curtailment schedule for Srinagar areas while the officials said that the complete plan will be issued within next few days.

According to the schedule, Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited (KPDCL) stated that there will be 4.5 hours power curtailment in metered areas on a daily basis.

It stated that the curtailment of 1 hour 30 minutes will be ensured in three shifts—morning, afternoon and evening.

It added that in non-metered areas there will be curtailment of 8 hours regularly.

Pertinently, Kashmir has been witnessing frequent power cuts after the government claimed that the power generation has reduced due to the prolonged dry spell.

The KPDCL, however, procured electricity from central and Uttar Pradesh governments to address the issue of power shortage, but the consumers continued to complain about the erratic power supply.

Nonetheless, the fresh power curtailment schedule is expected to reduce the unscheduled power cuts in Kashmir as the schedule has been issued as per the availability.

Sources said that additional electricity has been procured, which would help in ensuring less power curtailment to the consumers. “The plan has been issued as per the availability,” they said.

Chief Engineer, Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL), Javed Yousuf Dar said that a trial based power schedule has been announced for some areas in Srinagar.

“A complete power curtailment schedule for across the valley will be issued in next few days,” he added. (KNO)
