Industrial unit holders rue power outage at Lassipora estate

Pulwama: The industrial unit holders in Lassipora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have been complaining of erratic power supply to the industrial estate, saying that they have been facing many hardships owing to the frequent power cuts.
Notably, The State Industrial Development Corporation (SIDCO) in Lassipora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district is the biggest industrial estate falling in south Kashmir.
The industrialists said that their whole system works on electricity but in absence of electricity they are suffering badly.
“It is bizarre and deplorable that frequent power cuts are hurting the industrial units. The machinery worth lakhs of rupees is not being put to optimum se due to unscheduled power cuts in the SIDCO complex Lassipora,” they said.
Every year there are new challenges and this year power outage is creating problems to around 300 unit holders in the industrial area, they added.
An industry expert said that unit holders were paying electricity dues properly and on time and yet PDD has resorted to power cuts.
“Government had promised it would supply uninterrupted electricity to industrial areas but the current crisis has proved all these promises as hoax,” he said.
“We already suffered a lot in the last few years due to clampdown and Covid-19 and now the electricity crisis is further compounding our problems,” said Mohammad Ibrahim, a labourer working at one of the units.
He added that Power Development Department does not have any authority to curtail electricity in industrial estates.
Despite bringing this issue into the notice of concerned authorities several times nothing is being done on the ground, the unit holders complained.
They requested concerned authorities to look into the matter and make immediate arrangements so that scheduled power supply will be available and unit holders won’t face losses again this year.
