MeT predicts mainly dry weather in JK for next three days
Srinagar: After overnight rains in plains and snowfall over upper reaches, the weather was clear at most places in Jammu and Kashmir with the meteorological department on Tuesday predicting mainly clear skies till October 13.
A meteorological department official here said that a brief spell of rain/snowfall over higher reaches may occur but “chances are less.”
He said that weather is expected to be mainly dry fr4om October 11 to 13.
From October 14-17, he said, intermittent light to moderate rain and snowfall over higher reaches was likely at many places of Jammu and Kashmir and its chances ranged between 60-70%.
Regarding the rainfall from last evening till 0830 hours Tuesday , he said, Srinagar received 16.7mm, Qazigund 17.2mm, Pahalgam 16.6mm, Kupwara 3.6mm, Kokernbag 21.0mm, Gulmarg 26.6mm, Jammu 27.5mm, Banihal 30mm, Batote 35.2mm, Katra 32.4mm and Bhaderwah 18.4mm.
Meanwhile, the strategic Sonamarg-Zojjila road was closed on Tuesday after upper reaches of Zojila in Ganderbal district of Central Kashmir received fresh snowfall on Tuesday.
Reports said that snowfall in Drass and Minimarg has led to closure of Sonamarg-Zojila road.
Official said that keeping in view the slippery condition and fresh snowfall, the sonamarg Zojjila road has been closed as a precautionary measure.
Kargil Police wrote on X that due to fresh snowfall & slippery road conditions at Zojilla Pass of NH-1D, traffic has been stopped at Minimarg & Sonamarg. Traffic will be restored once the weather improves. (with inputs from GNS, KNO)
