Fire damages vast patches in Sopore Forest area

Sopore: A massive fire broke out in the forest area of Rampora Rajpora in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district since Thursday afternoon while as the teams of forest department have been deployed to douse off the flames, officials said.

Reports and locals said that the fire started mysteriously in compartment number 30 at Rampora Rajpora forests and started to is spread to more areas causing huge damage to the forest area, especially the vegetation and plants.

“The raging flames could be seen from a distance in the forest,” said Khazir Mohammad, Sarpanch of Rampora village.

He said the fire has engulfed a large area of forest compartment 30.

“A large number of trees are feared to have suffered damage,” he said, adding that it is for first time that a massive fire has ben reported in the area.

He said that the teams from Fire and Emergency department, Forest department including Forest Protection Force are on the job to douse the flames.

Meanwhile, an official from forest department Sopore also confirmed the eruption of fire and said that efforts are on to control the fire and minimize the damage caused to the forest area.
