KVK-Bandipora-II Gurez mourns demise of Prof. M. S. Swaminathan
Bandipora: KVK-Bandipora-II at Dawar, Gurez mourned the demise of Prof. M. S. Swaminathan, Father of Green Revolution in India.
In this regard a two minutes silence for peace to departed soul was observed by KVK-Gurez with all the participants of one day awareness programme at Dak Bunglow, Dawar.
In the verbal obituary reference, Dr. Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Programme Coordinator KVK-Gurez deliberated on the role of Prof. Swaminathan in bringing green revolution in the country.
He said that his efforts in transforming agriculture in the country will be remembered forever. Lauding his role in ensuring food security, Dr. Parveen Kumar SMS (Ag. Extension) highlighted his contributions to the agriculture sector and called them unparallel particularly in context of Indian agriculture.
His efforts in introduction and development of high yielding varieties of Paddy and Wheat in the 1960s led to green revolution in the country. Terming it as a black day for Indian agriculture, the farming community of the region also expressed shock and grief over the death of the legend of Indian agriculture. Dr. Bilal A Pandit, Dr. M. Magray, Samer Akhoon, Sohail Subhan also paid rich tribute to the legendry scientist.
