Pulwama: A water supply scheme continues to remain defunct for around 12 years in Dangarpora Arihal area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, locals alleged Monday.

The residents of the area said that a water supply scheme in the area was constructed in year 2009 and it was working nicely till 2011.

In 2011, the well that was the source of the scheme collapsed leaving the water supply scheme defunct and since then locals have been suffering for potable water, they said.

Abdul Qayoom, a local resident said that the department constructed two more wells since then but water coming out of them wasn’t worth using.

“We have repeatedly requested the authorities to construct a bore well close to the spot where the first well dug, but due to unknown reasons our requests are being ignored,” he said .

Locals said that since last 12 years, Dangarpora area consisting of around 200 households has been suffering for potable water but authorities have failed in making the existing scheme functional.

“Despite bringing this issue into the notice of authorities several times the issue continues to haunt them,” they added.

The locals have now again requested the authorities to look into the matter at an earliest and make the scheme functional so that people won’t suffer anymore.
