Pulwama: Locals in south Kashmir’s Awantipora area have demanded widening of Pulwama-Awantipora route at narrow spots on fast track basis.

They said that the narrowness of the road at some spots from Pulwama-Awantipora often leads to traffic jams due to which locals have to face huge inconvenience.

They said that the government must take steps to widen this important road so that people  won’t suffer anymore.

Rizwan Ahmad, a social activist from Koil Pulwama, said that the government has done a good job by maintaining this vital road but there are few spots on the road where widening is needed immediately.

He said that the road needs immediate widening in Koil village as narrow road stretch in Koil often leads to accidents.

He said that in last one month dozens of accidents have taken place at Koil in which one person died while several others were injured.

The narrowness of this vital road where people from Awantipora, Tral and other areas are visiting district headquarters often leads to traffic jam and needs immediate attention of the administration.

The locals said that narrow spots are leading to traffic jams on the route and the government must look into it to avoid traffic jams and accidents as well.

The locals also requested the higher ups to look into the matter and take immediate steps for the widening of this road.

Meanwhile, Executive Engineer R&B division Pulwama, Javeed Ahmad said that as of now there is no plan of widening the road. However, he said that such proposal can be undertaken in future.

He said that major portion of the road is now coming under Awantipora division and we need to confirm from them as well as to where the road stretch needs further widening.
