Shopian: A vital bridge on Nallah Tongri that collapsed in Chitragam area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district last year awaits completion as the civil works on the bridge have not been completed so far, locals said.
Locals from the area said that the vital bridge on Chitragam-Yaripora road collapsed in November last year that has led to various hardships to the locals as the bridge was connecting several villages with each other.
They said that there are hundreds of households who are living on one side and their orchard land is lying on the other side of the nallah and in absence of a bridge, they are facing hardships.
The locals alleged that they had time and again informed the officials about the condition of the bridge as the base of the pillar was damaged due to extraction of minerals from the Nallah.
They said authorities failed to take cognizance of the issue leaving people to suffer now for more than a year now.
They said that soon after the bridge collapsed a diversion was constructed but that too was washed by heavy flow of the water.
The locals requested the higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest and take immediate steps in this regard so that people won’t have to suffer especially during the apple harvesting season.
Meanwhile, an official said that a new bridge will be constructed soon there as tendering work has been already completed.
He said that for immediate relief, a bailey bridge is being installed there and it will be completed in one weeks time.
