DDC chairs weekly Block Diwas at Tujan Sports Stadium Pulwama

PULWAMA: Continuing the efforts to reach out to people in various far-flung areas of the district, the District Development Commissioner (DDC) Pulwama, Dr Basharat Qayoom Wednesday presided over the weekly Block Diwas programme at Tujan Sports Stadium Pulwama.

Officers and officials from various departments attended the Block Diwas and informed the public about different schemes and programs being implemented by departments in the district and encouraged them to take advantage of their benefits.

Various issues including upgradation of inner roads, staff shortages in government institutions, water scarcity and health infrastructure were raised during the Block Diwas by people.

Addressing the people, the DDC reiterated that the District Administration is committed to ensuring that all fundamental amenities are available to the public at their doorstep.

Speaking on the occasion, DDC said that Block Diwas is transforming the contours of local governance and is an effective mechanism of people’s participation besides a reflection of peoples’ confidence in public institutions and the main purpose of Block Diwas is to reach the last person in the row.

He stressed upon the officers to prioritize the demands and redress them within the stipulated timelines.

Dr Basharat also informed participants about 1013 online services available and emphasised that the main stakeholder in this is the citizen and such successful implementation of digital services was possible only because of cooperation by the public. He said, in this regard Digital Week is going to be celebrated across the UT from 31st August -6th September and District Administration will ensure that further efficiency will be ensured.

The DDC laid stress on the War Against Drugs and emphasised that it is imperative that local Committees, SHGs, Auqaf Committees and most importantly public play an important role so that Nasha Mukt Abhiyan will be successful.

He also stressed for a vigorous Safai Abhiyan and proper utilisation of Door to Door Collection and Solid Waste Management assets so that a green and clean Tujan is achieved.
