Locals continue to demand shifting of shed

Anantnag: Authorities on Tuesday removed garbage from the segregation shed, a day after ‘Kashmir Vision’ highlighted the issue of garbage lying scattered along Bijbehara-Pahalgam road in Kanelwan area of Bijbehara sub division in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

The residents of the area said that a day after the issue of garbage lying scattered along the road was highlighted, authorities swung into action and removed the garbage from the shed.

The locals expressed their satisfaction over the move and thanked the administration for swift action and also thanked ‘Kashmir Vision’ for highlighting their genuine issue.

Locals on Monday had alleged that segregation shed has become a cause of concern for the local residents as well as tourists who are visiting Pahalgam and other spots.

Notably, after the issue was highlighted authorities swung into action and cleared the shed of garbage that was lying scattered around.

They said the shed has been constructed along the Pahalgam-Bijbehara road which witnesses movement of tourists and commuters on regular basis.

Locals said that the shed remains full of garbage most of the time and it is not being cleared on time due to which it creates more problems.

They said that foul smell coming out of the shed is making life of the people living around it miserable.

Removal of garbage from the shed is time being solution but permanent solution lies in shifting of the shed, they said.

Removing of garbage will give us a temporary relief but permanent relief lies in shifting of the shed to area where movement of people is least, they said.

They said that they had requested the authorities to consider relocating it to a more appropriate place, away from residential areas and educational institutions but nothing has been done as of now.

The villagers have urged the local administration to take immediate action and find an alternative location for the garbage segregation shed to ensure the well-being and safety of the community and tourists as well.
