Shalbanjer Shopian residents demand proper road connectivity

Shopian: Residents of Shalbanjer area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district Saturday complained of lack of basic facilities especially road connectivity to their village.

Locals said that the area is located at about 15 kilometres from district headquarters but is has been left alone by the administration as no basic facilities are being provided to the residents.

“Even in 21st century we are without basic amenities as since last 60 years politicians visited the village for votes and no developmental work was carried out to make the lives of the residents easy,” the locals alleged.

Asif Hussain, a local resident said that there is no proper road connectivity to the area due to which they are suffering and whenever anyone falls ill they have carry him on cart for several kilometers so that he can be taken to hospital.

“We have to carry brides in a cart for few kilometers as there is no proper road connectivity to the area,” he said.

Mohammad Jabbar Khan, another local resident said that they are living a miserable life as no one comes to their rescue.

“Our village has been neglected on the developmental front as it lacks proper road connectivity and other facilities,” he said.

“We are treated like animals as no attention is being provided towards our village despite repeated visits to the offices of concerned officers,” they locals rued.

They said that after hectic efforts issue of water supply has been resolved recently but main issue for the area is road connectivity as they have no option other than to go by foot for several kilometres to reach a spot where they can board a vehicle.

The locals said that they have brought their issues to the notice of concerned authorities several times but to no avail.

The locals have now sought immediate intervention of District Magistrate Shopian in this regard so that locals won’t have to suffer anymore.
