Shopkeepers demand Lt Guv’s intervention

Pulwama: The shopkeepers whose shops were demolished in year 2020 in Tral town have demanded that work on the government shopping complex where they were to be allotted shops should be started immediately.

The shopkeepers said that in March 2020 the administration had demolished around 50 shops in the main town that according to the government were constructed on state land.

Soon after that shopkeepers protested and demanded rehabilitation following which authorities assured them that they will be provided shops in government shopping complex.

Junaid Ahmad, one among those whose shop was demolished said that since then around four years have passed but work on the complex is yet to be started.

“We all were dependent on those shops that were demolished, however, after the government assurances we were expecting that they will get shops soon but that isn’t happening on ground,” he alleged.

Another shopkeeper said that they are on the verge of starvation as they were wholly dependent on shops that were demolished and now they do not have any other source of livelihood.

“It seems we will have to wait for decades to get the shop as even after a lapse of around four years, nothing is being done on ground,” he added.

The affected Shopkeepers said that they have met officials and politicians in this regard who always assure us that work will be started soon but nothing is being done .

The shopkeepers have now requested LG Manoj Sinha and DC Pulwama to personally intervene in this regard so that their sufferings will see an end.
