Gagran Shopian residents demand scheduled drinking water supply
Shopian: The residents of Gagran village near main town Shopian district in south Kashmir have demand scheduled drinking water supply for their area.
The residents of the area said that since last few days they aren’t getting water and as a result they are facing lot of inconvenience.
They said that Gagran village is just a few hundred metres from the town and has been facing water crisis since last one week due to unknown reasons.
Rouf Ahmad, a local resident said that the area had good water supply for many years but since last few days their taps have gone dry for unknown reasons.
He said that the people are not getting water for even their basic needs like bathing, drinking and other purposes but no steps are being taken in this regard.
A local woman said that despite living close to the town the area has been getting unscheduled water supply and now there was no supply since last one week.
Locals said that they are to forced to visit nearby areas to get the water required for drinking and other purposes.
They said that the matter was brought into the notice of higher ups several times during the past few days but no attention was given towards it.
They requested higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest so that locals won’t suffer anymore.
Meanwhile, an official of the Jal Shakti department said that some orchardists had cut the main source of water to irrigate their orchards leading to water shortage.
He said that supply had been restored and the area is getting scheduled water while requesting people not to use drinking water for irrigation purposes.
