Police arrests seven drug peddlers

Srinagar: Police arrested seven drug peddlers in Sopore, Kulgam, Budgam and Baramulla and recovered contraband/ psychotropic substances from their possession, a police spokesman said Friday.

In Sopore, a police party at a checkpoint established at Hib Dangerpora intercepted and apprehended a notorious drug peddler identified as Fayaz Ahmad Wani son of Muhammad Abdullah Wani resident of Tujjar Shareef Sopore. During checking, 12 bottles of Codeine phosphate were recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

In Kulgam, a police party at a checkpoint established at Drien Daulatabad near NHW intercepted & apprehended a notorious drug peddler identified as Suhail Ahmad Ganie son of Bashir Ahmad Ganie resident of Brankher Drien, Daulatabad. During search, 5Kgs of poppy straw like contraband substance from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

In Budgam, a police party arrested 04 drug peddlers identified as Zahid Majeed Bhat son of Abdul Majeed Bhat, Irfan Ahmad War son of Abdul Ahad War both residents of Peth-Kanihama, Tariq Ahmad Parray son of Ghulam Mohammad Parray resident of Warihama and Fayaz Ahmad Dar son of Abdul Rahman Dar resident of Badran Magam. During search, 40 bottles of codeine phosphate and cash amount of Rs. 13100/= was recovered from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. More recoveries and arrests are expected in the said case.

In Baramulla, a police party arrested a drug smuggler namely Abdul Hameed Mir son of Ghulam Hassan Mir resident of Seru Gudwani Pattan during checkpoint at TCP Palpora Crossing Pattan. During search, 2.750 Kgs of Poppy Straw like contraband substance concealed in a bag was recovered from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation have been initiated, the spokesman added.
