Police books three notorious drug smugglers under PIT-NDPS Act

Six drug peddlers held in Baramulla, Budgam

Srinagar: Police in Baramulla booked three most wanted and notorious drug smugglers under PIT-NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority, a police spokesman said Saturday.

The three accused drug smugglers identified as Khurshid Ahmad Bakshi son of Mohammad Rafiq Bakshi resident of Watalpora Tangmarg, Fayaz Ahmad Wani son of Abdul Jabbar Wani resident of Dangerpora Baramulla and Bashir Ahmad Ganai son of Lt. Wali Mohammad Ganai resident of Trikanjan Boniyar have been booked under PIT-NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority. The booked drug smugglers have been detained and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-Balwal Jail Jammu.

Pertinently, many cases are registered against the said drug smugglers and they were involved in promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth of Watalpora Tangmarg, Dangerpora, Heewan, Sheeri, Trikanjan Boniyar and other areas of District Baramulla. Despite their involvement in many FIRs, they did not mend their activities and were again involved in promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth, he added.

Meanwhile, police have arrested six drug peddlers/ smugglers in Baramulla and Budgam and recovered contraband substances from their possession, the spokesman said.

He said that in Baramulla, a police party at a checkpoint established at Khanpora Baramulla intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully by the alert police party. During search, 60 grams of Charas like contraband substance concealed in a bag was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Abdul Hameed Sheikh son of Abdul Khaliq Sheikh resident of Boniyar.

Meanwhile, a police party at a checkpoint established at Kralhar new Railway Station Crossing Baramulla intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully by the alert police party. During search, 30 grams of brown sugar-like contraband substance concealed in a bag was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Safan Shafi Zargar son of Mohammad Shafi Zargar resident of Kanispora Baramulla.

In Budgam, during cordon and search operation (CASO) at village Danseera, a police party from Police Station Beerwah apprehended three persons identified as Junaid Ahmed Dar son of Ghulam Mohi Din Dar resident of Danseera Beerwah, Adil Ahmed Ganaie son of Lt. Ghulam Ahmad Ganaie and Nasir Ali Dar son of Ali Mohammad Dar both residents of Sonapah Beerwah Budgam. Upon their personal search, 50 sticks of charas like substance alongwith three (03) mobile phones were recovered from their possession.

Similarly, specific information was received by the Police Station Beerwah that one person namely Abdul Ahad Wani son of Mohammad Subhan Wani resident of Pethkote is dealing with drugs and has concealed Poppy straw in his cowshed and is about to relocate the same contraband for further distribution among youth of the area etc. Acting swiftly, a police party of PS Beerwah raided the said spot and during search 6Kgs of Poppy straw was recovered. Accused person was also arrested on the spot, the spokesman added.

They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation has been initiated, he said.
