Good company is a virtue
By: Hadi Gulzar
A person is known by the company he keeps, is a famous quote said before 2500 years ago by a great Greek philosopher, Aesop. It means that a person or a man is recognised by the society, by the friend circle, the family he belongs to, or a person is similar to the people he spend his time with.
A person’s company makes it clear how a person is. There remains no other parameter to judge the person. In the world, there are many companies in which we can fall into or engage with. However, it is only the good company that is the most effective company at the end of the day.
From elders to teachers, everyone says the same thing that the youth must remain away from the bad companies. It is a well-established fact and no one can doubt its authenticity.
A person should choose a good, loyal and respectful company for himself. He should choose friend circle or the company of the intellectuals who will raise him to the new heights of intellectualism.
He should belong to a good company that would drag him from evil to good life. If the person chooses a better company, he will obviously get respect from his society. He will feel contented at heart. The good company is an epitome of morality and uprightness. In the company of good people, bad habits go away while the good habits are inculcated.
On the contrary, in the black smith’s, dust and smoke will choke our throats while in a perfume selling shop, different fragrances will remove all the stink from our lives. The bad company will lower the dignity of the person. Falling into the bad company will make the person wild and anti-social. Society hates these who damage its basic norms. They are a burden on the society.
In order to live a good social life, the person must choose his company after a lot of deliberation. It is the person’s company that will decide his future in the long run. Bad habits don’t go away easily.
They leave a permanent mark in a person’s life. So, we must remain alert while falling into a bad company. The great philosophers had the best companions or they would remain alone. They couldn’t tolerate the illogical behaviour of the illogical people. So, it is better for us to choose companies after looking at both sides of the coin.
