Locals demand intervention of Lt Guv

Anantnag: The locals living around Chattabal area in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district have rued the fact that the administration has failed to improve the basic facilities in the area which were otherwise promised after the area was declared a tourist spot.

Locals claimed that the authorities have failed to develop the destination like others in the Valley.

They added if Chattabal will be developed on modern lines the tourist destination can help hundreds of youth to get involved in tourism promotion activities.

Akhter Hussain,a local resident said that minor works have been done on the spot but major works that can change the destiny of the area are yet to be carried out.

Few buildings have as of now been constructed but the infrastructure that needs to be developed is still missing, he said.

The locals also said that the government has enlisted hundreds of destinations including Chattabal as tourist resorts and claimed to have developed these resorts.

However, the government claims fall flat as the administration has failed to develop Chattabal so far as the area still lacks all the basic amenities.

The negligence of officials has proven to be detrimental to the flow of tourists to Chattabal, they added.

Interestingly, Chattabal of Chitergul- Shangas area of Anantnag district is merely 20 kms away from the famous Mughal Garden of Achabal.

The locals said that the development of Chhatabal can be taken in hand and the move will attract thousands of visitors.

It can also serve as the destination for adventure tourism as the famous Margan-top is adjacent to the area, they said.

Locals said that despite bringing these issues into the notice of concerned authorities several times no action is being initiated.

The locals have now requested LG Manoj Sinha  to look into the matter at an earliest and issue orders for development of this tourist spot so that tourist flow will increase and locals can earn their livelihood as well.
