Shopian: Dangling electric wires tied with trees, worn out wooden poles are posing grave threat to the lives of people as well as to their property in Sangran area of Imamsahib hamlet in south Kashmir’s Shopian district, locals alleged Friday.

The residents of the area alleged that they are living under constant fear due to low lying electric wires tied with trees in their villages and the electric wires have been tied with trees and decaying electric poles.

They said that the electric lines touch roofs of houses and trees on roads posing risk to life and property and due to low lying overhead transmission lines.

They said that there are around 50-60 households who are in immediate need of electric poles and wires so that they get hassle free power supply.

“We have been requesting the concerned department to replace the dangling and damaged electric wires and poles but our pleas fell on deaf ears,” said Junaid Ahmad, a local resident.

He said during the back to village programmes every year we have demanded electric poles and wires in the area but nothing has been done so far.

“All low tension wires in our village have been tied with trees in absence of poles due to which the wires dangling quite low and they quite often get damaged,” said Nawaz, another local resident.

He added that they have taken up this issue with the administration several times but on ground nothing has been done.

Locals said that the weak power infrastructure often leads to faults due to which they are getting unscheduled supply and even their lives and properties are at risk.

They requested higher ups to look into the matter and provide the area with new electric wire and poles.
