Police arrests drug smugglers, contraband substances recovered
Srinagar: Police six drug smugglers and recovered contraband substances from their possession, a police spokesman said.
He said that a police party at a checkpoint established at Salamdeedar Babareshi intercepted a motorcycle bearing registration number JK05K-1768 driven by one person. During search, 440 grams of Poppy Straw and 182 grams of Poppy Powder like substance was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Imtiyaz Salim Khan son of Sarandaz Khan resident of Tangwari Bala. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Motorcycle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Similarly, during naka checking at Solinda Tangmarg intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK05K-5490 with four persons on board who tried to flee but was apprehended tactfully. During search, 370 grams of Charas like substance was recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Irshad Ahmad Ganie son of Abdul Jabbar, Dawood Ahmad Sofi son of Ghulam Hassan, Zahoor Ahmad Bhat son of Ghulam Ahmad Bhat and Suhail Ahmad Sofi son of Ghulam Hassan, all residents of Solinda Tangmarg. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered in respective police stations and investigation has been initiated.
Officers from Police Station Sopore at a checkpoint established at Dooru Crossing intercepted a suspicious person. During checking, 11 bottles of Codeine were recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Umer Hussain War @Beta son of Muhammad Hussain War resident of Edipora Bomai. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 203/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Sopore and further investigation has been taken up.
Meanwhile, police destroyed wild cannabis spread over vast area of land in Baramulla and Bandipora.
In Baramulla, a police party alongwith Executive Magistrate destroyed wild Cannabis spread over vast area of land at Tapper and Renji Pattan area of District Baramulla.
In Bandipora, a police party launched a bhung destruction drive in Nadihal Aragam and its adjacent areas and destroyed wild bhung spread over vast area of land.
