Uthoora Pulwama residents seek availability of potable water

Pulwama: The residents of Uthoora village in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have been waiting to get potable water as they allege that the area has no proper water supply scheme to feed the local population.
The residents of the area said that they are forced to drink contaminated and unfiltered water in absence of any proper water supply scheme in the area.
They said that water is directly supplied to them from a stream that is highly contaminated and is taking a heavy toll on their health.
They added that an old water supply scheme which fed the village failed following which the government sanctioned a water supply scheme under Jal Jeevan Mission but the authorities are yet to start work on it.
Shabir Ahmad, a local resident said that the new scheme was sanctioned three years back but the government is yet to start work on it.
“As of now, villagers get water directly from the stream and can it can become cause of any disease outbreak anytime,” he said.
Locals said that during rainy days, they are directly getting muddy water that they are unable to consume it.
Despite bringing our plights into the notice of higher ups several times no attention is being given towards it, they said.
The locals have now sought the attention of LG administration in this regard.
Meanwhile, an official of the PHE department said that water supply scheme was sanctioned under Jal Jeevan Mission for which the work has been tendered out already and work is expected to start soon.
