Rain triggers flash floods in Awantipora village

Awantipora: The heavy rains for around three hours on Wednesday morning triggered flash floods in Larkipora Padgampora area in Awantipora sub district in Pulwama, reports and locals said.

Locals from Larkipora Padgampora area said that continuous rains on Wednesday morning triggered flash floods on Pulwama-Awantipora road leading to Dangerpora.

They said that water even entered info lawns of several households thereby keeping their movement confined for several hours.

Showkat Rasool, a local social activist said that whenever it rains, it floods the vital road at Larkipora every time thereby giving tough time to locals and commuters.

He said that this part of the road is being macadamised every year but due to floods, it gets damaged as well.

The locals said that they have repeatedly requested concerned authorities to look into the issue and construct a drain there but no steps have been taken as of now.

They said that there is small canal going close to the road and drain can be connected to the canal to avoid water logging.

They requested higher ups to take up the issue on priority basis and take immediate steps in this regard so that locals won’t suffer anymore.

Meanwhile, officials said that they have sent vehicles of fire and emergency department to drain out the storm water there.
