Pulwama: The residents of Pathan village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district are without drinking water facility for the past one month, locals alleged on Friday.

The residents of Pathan said that since last one month a major part of the village is suffering due to shortage of drinking water.

They said that even authorities who are well aware of the situation are resorting to dilly dally tactics as they failed to restore the water supply in the area.

Shakeel Ahmad, a local resident said that water supply to the major part of the village remains affected as the villagers living close to the scheme have been using it for irrigation purposes in their lawns and kitchen gardens.

He said they have been using motors to lift water from the supply lines and no water reaches the people at the tail end of the scheme.

“We have been suffering in absence of water and the women folk have to cover long distances in order to fetch potable water,” locals said.

“We have brought this issue into the notice of concerned authorities several times but to no avail as no step is being taken in this regard,” they added.

“Even department employees claim that they have taken steps so that drinking water won’t be used for irrigation purposes but there is hardly any impact on ground,” they said.

They requested higher ups to look into the matter and take immediate steps for restoration of water supply in the area so that locals won’t suffer anymore.

Meanwhile, an official of the Jal Shakti department said that pipeline has got blocked at one spot and employees are on job to clear it.

He said that water tanker was sent to the area so that people won’t suffer and efforts are on to fully restore the pipeline.
