Seek upgradation of services, basic amenities

Pulwama:-A village in Litter tehsil of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district is carving for facilities as authorities aren’t paying any attention towards the village, locals alleged.

Locals from Zahid Bagh village said that the village falls on the boundary of Pulwama and Shopian district and lacks all basic facilities.

They said that a water supply scheme along with a filtration plant was constructed in the area around a decade back and water supply scheme was made functional but filtration plant is yet to be made functional.

They locals alleged that from last ten years, they are forced to drink contaminated water and despite repeated pleas to the concerned authorities, no attention is being diverted towards the issue.

The locals said that decayed poles and low lying electric wire are lso posing threat to the residents and no attention is being given towards this grave issue as well.

They said that they have visited the offices of concerned authorities several times to enhance infrastructure in the area but the repeated pleas have ‘fallen on deaf ears’.

The locals also said that a govt middle school in the village in carving for infrastructure as school is cramped for space with no infrastructure being upgraded.

They added that students who belong to poor families are unable to get proper education as the school is cramped in just three rooms that too for ten classes.

They further added that the inner roads in the area are also lying in dilapidated condition and haven’t been macadamised ever.

They further added that the village has a population of around 10 thousands but has been neglected by successive governments.

The residents have now requested the Lt Governor lead administration to look into the matter and direct concerned officials to provide basic facilities to the area at an earliest so that they can heave a sigh of relief.

They requested DC Pulwama to personally visit the area and take stock of the situation in the village.
