Anantnag: A school in Arwani area of Bijbehara in south Kashmir is operating from just five rooms with around 200 students enrolled for different classes.

Locals from new colony Arwani said that a primary school was established in the area in year 2005 and was upgraded in 2009 to middle school, however, it has been facing space crunch since the day it was established.

They said that the school has just five rooms including office for around 200 students admitted upto class nine.

Shabir Ahmed, a local resident said that the government focuses more on showcasing achievements in the education sector but there is very little development visible at the ground level.

“Although the staff members are doing their best to provide quality education to the enrolled students but the dearth of basic facilities has got them concerned, having no answers to the anguish of the students,” he said.

“Compared to other Government schools, the school has a good number of students enrolled which makes it imperative for the concerned authorities to take immediate steps in order to provide them quality facilities,” he said.

All students studying here belong to financially weak families, so authorities must take immediate steps to ensure quality education for these poor students, another youth said.

Meanwhile, the locals said that they have in the past apprised the concerned authorities about the issue several times but nothing has been done so far.

They said that education of students is getting effected when two classes are being taught in a single room simultaneously.

They requested higher ups to look into the matter and construct another building so that students of financially weak families won’t suffer anymore.

Meanwhile, Chief Education Officer Anantnag Kamal Kishore, when contacted said that he will look into the matter and all possible steps for the welfare of student will be taken.
