Police arrests drug peddler

Srinagar: Police arrested a drug peddler in Shopian and recovered contraband substance from his possession, a police spokesman said QWednesday.

He said that a special police team during naka checking at Adijan Reshingari intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee but was apprehended tactfully by the alert party. During search, officers were able to recover 08 grams of Brown Sugar like substance from his possession. He has been identified as Rahil Ahmad Dar son of Late Mohammad Sadiq Dar resident of Khanabal Anantnag. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 32/2023 under relevant sections of law has been registered at PS Heerpora & investigation has been taken up.

Moreover, police in Baramulla continuing its war against illegal poppy cultivation have destroyed illicit Poppy Cultivation spread over 16 Kanals of land in Kamalkote Uri, Madian Uri, Poshnag Kreeri, Zaspora Tangmarg, Pazalpora Tangmarg, Khamindarpora Tangmarg, Mehrajpora Kungamdara, Cheksari Pattan & Dangerpora Pattan and have registered 09 cases under NDPS Act and arrested 29 persons during the last 5 months of current year.

In Baramulla police booked a notorious drug smuggler under PIT-NDPS Act after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority.

The notorious drug smuggler namely Mushtaq Ahmad Lone @Mushtaq son of Ali Mohammad Lone resident of Fatehgarh Sheeri has been detained and subsequently lodged in Central Jail Kot-Balwal Jammu after obtaining formal detention orders from the competent authority.

It is pertinent to mention that many cases are registered against the said drug smuggler and was involved in promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth of Fategarh, Sheeri, Heewan and other areas of District Baramulla. Despite his involvement in many FIRs, he did not mend his activities and was again involved in promoting drug abuse trade by supplying drugs to local youth.
