Locals protest unscheduled power cuts, inadequate water supply in Sopore
Sopore: Scores of residents of Jamia Qadeem and Hatishah area in Sopore hamlet of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Tuesday staged a protest against the unscheduled power cuts and inadequate water supply in their areas.
The aggrieved protesters mostly women blocked the road at Jamia bridge which affected the traffic movement for an hour, reports said/.
The residents alleged that despite living in the municipal area, they are facing unscheduled power cuts and are facing shortage of drinking water as well since past one week.
The residents said that pesky power cuts are forcing them to reel under darkness.
“Despite paying power tariff at par with the residents of areas falling under the municipal limits, the residents here are not being supplied adequate electricity. We fail to understand the reason behind the unscheduled power cuts,” they said.
“We have brought these issues into the notice of higher ups of the department several times but their repeated promises have proved hoax on ground,” the protestors said.
They added that the drinking water supply also remains irregular in their localities due to the long power cuts, thus leaving them to suffer during this summer days.
The protestors urged the higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest so that people could have sigh of relief in this hot summer season.
Meanwhile, ADC Sopore S A Raina assured the residents that their issues and demands will be resolved on priority basis.
