Pulwama: The residents of Wasanmarg area of Rajpora hamlet in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have demanded macadamization of the road connecting their village.

They said Wasanmarg that is lying on the fringes between Pulwama and Budgam is being ignored as the road which is connecting them with rest of the world hasn’t been macadamised yet.

“We have been moving from pillar to post for the macadamization of road from Wasanmarg to Kanidajan from last 20 years but nothing has been done as of now,” locals said.

“Around two year back work for the widening of the road was started but work was put on halt and is yet to resume,” said Sameer Ahmad, a local resident.

He said that the work done for the widening of the road further worsened the condition of the road.

“Sometimes, we have to carry patients who need emergency care on our shoulders up to the main road,” another local said.

Locals said that school going children, elderly persons and patients have been suffering due to the dilapidated condition of the road.

“Despite bringing this issue into the notice of concerned authorities several times, authorities have failed to take any concrete steps in this regard,” they said.

The residents have appealed to the higher authorities to look into the matter, saying macadamizing this road will also prove fruitful for tourists as they can use it to reach the famous tourist spot Yusmarg that is close to Wasanmarg.

They have sought attention of higher ups including DC Pulwama in this regard.

Meanwhile, an official of R&B department said that road has been already sanctioned under NABARD but the contractor has some issues that are being sought out and work is expected to start soon.
