Transformer installed along road poses threat to Gund Darvesh residents
Shopian: The residents of Gund Darvesh village in south Kashmir’s Shopian district are up in arms against the PDD for installing a transformer along a road posing threat to locals.
Locals said that electric transformer has been installed close to the ground along a road making it dangerous as short circuits near the transformer are common.
“The transformer has been installed very close to the ground with low-lying wires posing a grave threat to lives of people, particularly children,” said Shabir Ahmad, a local resident.
He said that a school is also close to the transformer and parents have to accompany their wards to take and bring them back due to the transformer there.
“We have pointed this out to PDD officials several times, but nothing has been done,” said Farooq Ahmad, another local resident.
“The maximum threat looms large over the children who while going to the school and playing do not pay attention towards the un-barricaded transformer and can come in contact with the wires,” he added.
The locals said that the transformer has uninsulated wire and conductors, which are easily accessible by the human beings and children can unknowingly touch them.
“The transformer can prove fatal anytime as it is close to road and ground from where hundreds of people pass each day,” he said.
Despite bringing this issue in notice of higher ups several ups no step has been taken on the ground, the locals said.
They requested concerned authorities to look into the matter at an earliest so that any eventuality may be avoided.
Meanwhile, an official of the PDD said that he will seek report from the ground staff in this regard as soon as possible and all possible steps for the safety of locals will be taken.
