Naina-Awantipora road lying in dilapidated condition, say locals
Demand immediate macadamisation, repairs
Pulwama: The Naina-Awantipora-Dogripora road that was macadamized few years back is lying in dilapidated condition, locals have alleged saying that a probe should be initiated as to why the road did not withstand even two years of operations.
Locals from Kawani, Dogripora and its adjoining areas on Thursday alleged that macadam was laid on the road after around a decade in 2021 but it didn’t last for six months.
After locals protested, road was again macadamized at some spots in 2022 where it had developed cracks but the road has again developed cracks and potholes at maximum spots, they said.
The locals alleged that soon after the macadamisation the road came off at multiple spots and potholes surfaced all over the road.
They said that the conditions of the road at most spots is that it seems that the road has never been repaired.
“The road is again in a very dilapidated condition at some spots and it is giving a very tough time to the commuters,” Humair Khan, a local resident said.
He said the matter must be investigated and action must be taken against the erring officials or the contractor involved in carrying out the works.
The locals accused PMGSY of using substandard materials due to which the blacktopping suffered erosion in no time.
They said that Naina-Awantipora is a vital road on which hundreds of vehicles ply each day.
The residents of the area appealed officials of the district administration and the higher officials of the PMGSY department to look into the matter and take erring officials to task.
