Kathohalan Shopian residents demand bridge over nallah
Shopian: The residents of Kathohalan in Keller sub division of south Kashmir’s Shopian district have demanded construction of a bridge over a local nallah.
The residents of Kathohalan said that they are facing huge inconvenience in absence of bridges in the area.
They said that their children are studying in schools that are lying on the other side of the nallah and have to cross the nallah as the makeshift bridge gets washed away every year.
Asif Ahmad, a local resident, said that they are facing a lot of problems in the absence of bridge, especially in case of emergency.
He said that around 20 households are living on the other side of the Nallah but district administration has failed in taking cognizance of issue and addressing our connectivity needs.
He said that the government has spent lakhs on different works everywhere but have failed in constructing a concrete bridge on the nallah.
“At least two persons have lost their lives while crossing the water body while several have received injuries but still the officials failed to take note,” he said.
Meanwhile, locals said that they have knocked on the doors of every government authority to get their issue redressed but to no avail.
Despite voting, taking part in every government programme, repeated assurances provided to us have proved hoax on ground, they said.
“We have high hopes on LG Manoj Sinha and DC Shopian that they will look into the demand and direct concerned authorities to raise a bridge on the nallah,” they added.
