Shadab Karewa residents protest shifting of high school

Shopian: The residents of Shadab Karewa residents in south Kashmir’s Shopian district staged a protest against the shifting of a high school in the area.

The residents of the area said that school was established in the area as Primary school around five decades back and then was upgraded to a Middle and then to a High School.

They said that the administration has now decided to shift it to higher secondary School that is around three kilometers from the existing school.

Asif Ahmad, a local resident said that around 300-350 students are enrolled in the school and they will face he difficulties once the school will be shifted.

He said that there is another high school just 1.5 km from the area where a higher secondary school has been established with less number of students and more teachers.

Shakeel Ahmad, another local said that instead of providing more facilities to the area, facilities are being snatched from the area.

He said that students of Manloo, Nardpora and its adjoining areas will suffer more if authorities won’t revere the decision.

The locals said that they have been continuously bringing this issue into the notice of higher officials but despite repeated assurances by them the school is being shifted.

They said that there is no proper road connectivity to the area where the higher secondary building has been constructed.

They demanded intervention of Chief Secretary and DC Shopian in this regard.

Meanwhile, an official of the education department when contacted said that they have directions from the higher ups to shift the school and locals must bring it in notice of higher officials if they have any issue in this regard.
