Anantnag: The residents of Pahalgam area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district staged a protest against unscheduled power cuts in the area. The residents alleged that they have been facing power cuts since November last.

Locals expressed strong resentment against PDD for failing to provide scheduled power supply to their localities since last six months.

The residents of Rangward Brenward and Mir Mohalla while holding protests on Pahalgam-Chandanwari road said that they are reeling under hours of power cuts daily and despite repeated requests to the PDD department, no attention was provided towards their plight.

“We are facing hardships due to the pesky power cuts during the day and night as well. If PDD is unable to provide uninterrupted scheduled power supply then they don’t have the right to charge fee from us,” said Mohammad Ashraf, a local resident.

The frequent power cuts have also badly affected the students and despite repeated requests nothing is being done to mitigate our problems, he said.

The protestors said that there is need to enhance power infrastructure in the area as transformers are also getting damaged frequently and existing transformers are unable to cater to the load.

Locals said that this issue has been brought in notice of concerned authorities’ a number of times but the situation hasn’t changed on ground.

Residents appealed LG and district administration to look into the matter and take immediate steps so that locals won’t suffer anymore.
