Construction of sports ground: Marhama Anantnag residents allege ‘misuse’ of funds
Anantnag: The residents of Marhama village in Sangam Bijbehara hamlet of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district have demanded investigation for funds utilized on the local sports stadium.
The residents of the area said that RDD and Youth Services and Sports Department claimed that they have spent around one crore on the development of the sports stadium, but the claim belittles the work done.
They said ground has no drainage system and sub standard material was used during construction due to which every lining wall is collapsing.
Zakir Ahmad, a local player said that if government would have spent around one crore on the stadium, then it would have emerged as a model sports stadium in the area.
He said that few works like construction of boundary walls has been carried out but it seems sub standard material was used in it as a part of the wall has collapsed while the rest is also about to collapse.
A teacher posted at a local primary school operating close to the sports stadium said that they had informed the concerned departments about the issue of usage of substandard material during constriction.
Despite writing to higher ups education department as well, nothing was done, he added.
Shakeel Ahmad, a local sports person said that it seems just few lakhs have been spent on the construction works and the administration should enquire as to where the huge amount of money has gone.
He said that government must constitute a committee to enquire the matter and take action against the officials involved in any kind of mess along with contractor.
Locals said that they have raised their voice several times about the issue but nothing has been done so far.
They have sought intervention of DC Anantnag and higher officials of the youth and sports department so that any misdoings on the part of the contractor or the local officials can be looked into.
