Drain constructed by R&B department goes defunct in Pulwama town, locals suffer

Pulwama: The residents of Sheikh Mohalla in Chatpora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district are up in arms against the R&B department as drain constructed in the area has gone defunct in less than one year.

The residents of the area said that due to the construction of drain, their problem has got more complex as now they are unable to walk on the road.

Ghulam Qadir, a local resident said that before the construction of the drain, the condition of the area was much better but now with the construction of drain the whole rain water remains stagnant on the main road.

He said that rain water isn’t going into the drain so it has failed to achieve the target for what it was constructed for.

Another local said that the administration is claiming that there is development taking place in every corner of the valley, but the situation in Plwama town is totally narrating a different tale.

He said that a drain constructed just a year back has got defunct and people living in the area are facing lot of problems.

Another local resident said that if one has to reach the main road, he has to cross ankle height water at several places along the drain.

He said that this issue was brought into the notice of higher ups several times but nothing has been done on ground.

They requested DC Pulwama to intervene and investigate the matter that how a drain that was constructed only a year back has gone defunct.
