South Kashmir residents demand repairing of Arwani-Bijbehara road

Anantnag: The residents of different areas of south Kashmir on Monday decried the dilapidated condition of a road from Arwani to Bijbehara.

The residents said the dilapidated condition of road was causing inconvenience to them and commuters.

They said the road is the part of Shopian-Bijbehara road, however, portion from Moman Arwani-Bijbehara has been neglected due to unknown reasons.

Manzoor Ahmad, a local resident said that the road is connecting hundreds of villages with the national highway, railway station and other areas, but it is lying in a dilapidated condition.

Ishfaq Ahmad Sheikh, another local said the school going children and patients are the worst sufferers because of the dilapidated condition of the road.

He said the locals visited the concerned offices several times to put forth the demand but nothing was done on ground so far.

The locals said the road has developed big potholes which gives tough time to patients and elderly people who commute via this road.

They said that major portion of Moman-Shopian has been already completed while government must take repair the road from Moman Arwani-Bijbehara road as well.

The residents urged the concerned authorities to look into the matter and macadamise the road to end the woes of the people of the area.

Notably, in February 2016, the Union ministry of Road Transport and Highways sanctioned an amount of Rs 48.93 crore for the upgradation and widening of the road, which connects Shopian with Bijbehara.

Connecting historical Mughal road with Srinagar-Jammu highway at Bijbehara town, the road is also the vital to hundreds of villages that connects them to different parts of South Kashmir.
