Gadiser Bijbehara residents demand sports stadium in their area

Anantnag: The residents of Gadiser village in Bijbehara area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district have demanded sports facilities for the youth of the area.

The residents said that the nearest sports facility is located around 1.5 km from Bijbehara town and as such they have been demanding sports facilities in the area since many years now.

They said that after repeated requests sports stadium was approved for the area and even state land was identified for it.

The residents said that since then three years have passed but nothing has been done on ground as authorities have failed to take control of the state land that stands illegally occupied by some people.

“Our youth are getting involved in drugs and other anti social activities as there are no sports facilities available for the youth,” Mohammad Maqbool, an elderly resident of the area said.

He said that various ailments have become common now among the youth as they have became physically inactive and there is need to engage them in sports activities.

The locals said that this issue has been brought into the notice of higher ups several times but to no avail.

They once again requested the higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest and take immediate steps for providing sports facilities to the local youth.
