Pulwama: The residents of Rakh village in Litter hamlet of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district are without drinking water for the past two weeks, locals alleged on Tuesday.

The residents said that they are without drinking water facility for the past two weeks due to unknown reasons and the locals have been made to suffer during the pious month of Ramadhan.

They said that they were getting water from a scheme from Lassipora area of Pulwama but due to some unknown reasons their taps have turned dry in the past two weeks.

“We have been suffering in absence of drinking water and the women folk has to cover long distances in order to fetch water,” they said.

Arshid Ahmad, a local resident said that since past two weeks they are forced to visit other nearby villages to bring water for consumption.

“Facing water crisis that too in the holy month of Ramadan is giving tough time to locals and authorities must take cognizance of the issue at an earliest, he said.

The locals said that they have been witnessing this issue after a long time and authorities must act immediately.

“We have brought this issue into the notice of concerned authorities several times but to no avail as no step is being taken in this regard,” they said.

The locals have once again requested the higher ups to look into the matter and take immediate steps for restoration of water supply in the area so that the people won’t suffer anymore.

Meanwhile, an official of the Jal Shakti department said that due to low water level in the spring, the source of the scheme, the supply to the Rakh village has taken a hit.

He said that the village falls at the tail end of the scheme and hence this shortage.

“With rains, the water level has started rising and the area will get water supply as they were getting few days back,” he said.
