Anantnag: The residents of Nowshera village in Khiram Dargah hamlet of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district have demanded investigation of the funds utilized on the local sports stadium.

The residents said that youth services and sports department claimed that they have spent around 2.05 crores on it during the last few years, however, on ground it seems just few lakhs have been spent.

Aijaz Ahmad, a local cricketer said that if government would have spent Rs 2 crore on it, then it would have been a model sports stadium but ground picture is reflecting something different.

He said that few works like construction of boundary walls were done but it seems sub standard material was used in the civil works as these walls too are about to collapse.

Rashid Hussian, another local player said that it seems around Rs 30-40 lakhs have been spent on it but one wants to know where over 1.5 crore has gone.

He said that that government must constitute a committee to enquire the matter and take action against the officials along with contractor who was involved in carrying out the civil and other works.

Locals said that they have raised their voice several times about the issue but nothing has been done and it seems few officials from the department were hand in glow with the contractor.

The locals have now sought intervention of DC Anantnag in this regard.

Meanwhile, an official said that they have already taken cognizance of the reports and further investigation in this regard has been taken up.

He said that action as per law shall be initiated whosever will be involved in any kind of fraud or negligence.
