Kulgam: The residents of Frisal town in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district are facing inconvenience due to the non-availability of ATMs in the area.

The locals said that Frisal despite having the town status has no ATM facility forcing them to travel long distances to access banking services.

They said they have to either travel to other areas where ATM facility is available or personally visit the bank for withdrawing cash.

“We have municipality here, Tehsildar, BDO and other important offices but still without an ATM facility when such facilities are available even in far off villages,” Tanveer, a local youth said.

“We have several times appealed to the concerned authorities to install an ATM here, but nothing has happened so far,” he added.

He said Frisal has a Degree College and is a tehsil headquarters, with shoppers from a dozen villages coming here on a regular basis, but there is not even a single ATM facility provided in the twoen.

Another local said the government is making efforts for cashless transactions in the rest of the world while this area does not have even an ATM.

“For transactions, we have to travel five kilometres to reach Yaripora, Bijbehara or Qaimoh,” he said.

They requested higher ups to look into the matter at an earliest so that locals can heave a sigh of relief.

Meanwhile, when contacted an official of J&K bank said that ATM facility has been already sanctioned for Frisal but nobody is ready to provide space there where ATM can be installed.
